Books
- Favorite Books: There's just too many. I love books and everything about them. The information they carry, the stories they tell, the feelings they inspire; The fresh scent of a brand new book, the wear and weight of a hundred year old volume. I love it when a book has just the right dimensions in terms of length, width, and height, especially when it's disproportionate to the weight. (You know, when you pick up a book, and it's heavier or lighter than you expected it to be. I love that surprise.) I love poetry books that are portable enough for my smaller purses. I also love dictionaries and books in other languages, even if I don't understand them. There's an inexplicable excitement in glancing over cryptic pages.
- Favorite Characters: I am in love with the men and women of Jane Austen's novels, as I am with most of the characters from Harry Potter. I would have loved to marry Remus or Sirius, but of COURSE JK Rowling had to go and make that impossible.
- Favorite Quotes: "Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Did she have a precursor? She did, indeed she did. In point of fact, there might have been no Lolita at all had I not loved, one summer, a certain initial girl-child. In a princedom by the sea. Oh when? About as many years before Lolita was born as my age was that summer. You can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, exhibit number one is what the seraphs, the misinformed, simple, noble-winged seraphs, envied. Look at this tangle of thorns." Vladimir Nabokov, "Lolita" Chapter 1
